Officials at an interscholastic athletic event are participants in the educational development of high school students. As such, they must exercise a high level of self-discipline, independence and responsibility. The purpose of this Code is to establish guidelines for ethical standards of conduct for all interscholastic officials. As an official, I understand that it is my responsibility to: 1. Master both the rules of the game and the mechanics necessary to enforce the rules, and shall exercise authority in an impartial, firm and controlled manner. 2. Work with each other, the state associations and the sections in a constructive and cooperative manner. 3. Uphold the honor and dignity of the profession in all interaction with student athletes, coaches, athletic directors, school administrators, colleagues and the public. 4. Prepare myself both physically and mentally, shall dress neatly and appropriately and shall comport myself in a manner consistent with the high standards of the profession. 5. Be punctual and professional in the fulfillment of all contractual obligations. 6. Remain mindful that my conduct influences the respect that student-athletes, coaches, and the public hold for the profession. 7. While enforcing the rules of play, remain aware of the inherent risk of injury that competition poses to student-athletes. Where appropriate, I shall inform event management of conditions or situations that appear unreasonably hazardous. 8. Take reasonable steps to educate myself in the recognition of emergency conditions that might arise during the course of competition. 9. To be a member of the Long Beach Unit: I understand I am an Independent Contractor. As a member of the CSOA-LB Unit. I understand that I am not an employee of the unit, CIF, or any school serviced by the unit. As such Workers Compensation laws do not cover me at any meetings, clinics and assigned softball game(s). I also understand as an Independent Contractor the is no minimum guarantee of game assignments. I have access and will accept assignments via the Arbiter program. As a Sports Official it is mandatory that I have Liability Insurance Protection. I will purchase and provide proof of such protection to the unit Secretary/Treasurer prior to my first game assignment. I understand the use or possession of tobacco and smoke products, alcoholic beverages, and illegal drugs at school sites is prohibited. The presence of any of the above is also against this association’s policies. I understand that if I am a sex registrant, I cannot be a member of this unit. I understand that if I am on probation or parole and any of my conditions is to stay away from a children/minors, schools, or parks then I cannot be a member of this unit. I promise to remain a member in good standing, complete all certification requirements, and have read and understand the unit’s bylaws and policies.
